10th UK Packaging Awards - A great year for glass

The tenth year of the UK Packaging Awards have once again seen glass demonstrate innovation, quality and elegance – and showcase a UK manufacturing industry creative flair and its eyes on the future.

All the British Glass members who entered were shortlisted for awards, resulting in winners and commendations. As in previous years, British Glass sponsored two awards – for everyday and premium glass packs. But it wasn’t just the glass-specific categories where our members were recognised.

O-I’s £25million investment in its plant at Alloa is adding value to Scotland’s spirit industry – bringing flexible manufacturing that will help Scottish brands in Scottish bottles compete in shifting global markets. The investment’s support of 600 direct, and 500 indirect jobs underlines the enduring role of modern glassmaking to the UK economy.

“We have upgraded Alloa’s design, new product development, glass colour and decoration facilities,” said Vitaliano Torno, O-I Europe’s Managing Director. “We would like to thank Scottish Enterprise for its support in strengthening our ability to serve the developing needs of the spirits industry in Scotland.”

“The awards are an insight into what’s happening right across the world of packaging, they stimulate creativity and that’s great for innovation. We’re proud to sponsor the event and see  all the UK glass manufacturers here, showcasing a great new products from our sector,” said Rebecca Cocking, Head of Container Affairs at British Glass.
