British Glass Launches Election Manifesto

Ahead of the General Election, British Glass has launched its manifesto for change, setting out measures to deliver growth, increase investment in key areas and focus on the development of manufacturing, and more specifically, glass manufacturing in the UK.

This includes building on the success of the Regional Growth fund and R&D tax credits, continuation of the employer-led Trailblazer programme for Apprenticeships, standardising and improving recycling collection and quality rates, and supporting investment in industrial energy efficiency.

The four key areas we are calling upon Government to make changes in are the following:

  1. Industrial Growth (including manufacturing and wider business policies)
  2. Skills and Training
  3. Energy and Environment
  4. Waste and Recycling

We understand the challenges that the next government faces in boosting productivity and investment whilst sustaining economic growth and generating the right environment to ensure UK businesses stay competitive in the global marketplace. We are proposing solutions that focus on a long-term vision beyond the next political cycle. Our prosperity as a country is inextricably linked to the success of our businesses and we need the right policies, leadership, collaboration and thinking in place to achieve this.

British Glass and its members are committed to restoring the UK’s heritage in manufacturing excellence but this will only happen if we are all working together to achieve a common goal of what’s best for UK industry.
