Hot new collaboration for Pilkington and Glass Services

Glass Services Ltd, a Kent-based manufacturer of IGUs with a strong capability in glass processing, has been licensed to process and distribute fire-resistant glass products provided by Pilkington United Kingdom Limited, part of the NSG Group.

Located in Ashford, Glass Services Ltd will be offering a cut-size and IGU service for products including Pilkington Pyrostop® and Pilkington Pyrodur®. In the event of a fire, fire-resistant glazing acts as a protective barrier to help a building’s occupants evacuate safely. It restricts the spread of flames, smoke and hot gases, as well as blocking the transmission of radiant heat (EI classification). Glass Services Ltd joins a group of firms located across the UK and Ireland authorised to process Pilkington fire-resistant glass. All companies have been audited to ensure they fully meet the high standards required to gain the CE mark.

Ben Williams, managing director at Glass Services Ltd, said:

“We already stock and process a variety of Pilkington products, which are known for their quality and help us to meet increased client demand for high-performance glazing. However, Pilkington Pyrostop® and Pilkington Pyrodur® were the missing piece to our portfolio.

“We’ve been looking to become a processor of Pilkington fire-resistant glass for a number of years, not only because of the high-performance but also because of the work the brand does in educating about fire safety. These products have now breathed new life into what we do and we’ve already seen an uplift in sales, as well as positive feedback from our clients.”

Norman Cooke, sales representative at Pilkington, added:

“Fire-resistant glass plays a crucial and therefore critical role in protecting many buildings, and to maintain this focus on our brand, we only partner with a handful of firms across the UK to process and supply Pilkington Pyrostop® and Pilkington Pyrodur®.

“Glass Services Ltd fully met the extremely high standards we require from our partners, and we look forward to working with them on developing their presence in Kent and the south east.”

Glass Services Ltd will continue to offer technical advice, fire-resistant and certified IGU’s and a comprehensive cut-size service including circles, curves and rake shaping with its state-of-the-art cutting equipment.

Pilkington offers a range of fire-resistant products designed to meet the varying levels of protection to suit customer’s needs. Pilkington Pyrostop® and Pilkington Pyrodur® products are designed for all key areas where fire resistance is required. This is typically in door and partition applications. For integrity only applications, the Pilkington Pyrodur® range offers up to 60 minutes when used in a suitable, tested glazing system. Pilkington Pyrostop® provides proven integrity and full thermal insulation for up to 180 minutes.
