O-I helps Wychwood redesign glass bottles

Reducing 20g of weight has made them more sustainable.

Marston’s Brewery wanted to make their Wychwood brand packaging more sustainable. With the help of O-I they were able to reduce the weight of the glass packaging by 20g. The new bottles weigh just 300gs. This reduces both the amount of energy used in making glass and the amount of energy used to transport the newly made bottles.

Emma Gilleland, Supply Chain Director for Marston’s said:

“We will reduce our glass by around 700 tonnes a year, saving the equivalent of 455 tonnes of CO2.”

Some of the legendary beers in that fall under the Wychwood brand are Hobgoblin, Hobgoblin Gold, King Goblin and Black Wych.

Paul McLavin, Marketing and Business Development Lead for O-I said:

“We understand our customers are always under pressure to improve their environmental standing. Fortunately, glass is already the most sustainable packaging material they can use and we are constantly improving our processes to offer an even better bottle.”

O-I has a strong commitment to sustainability. They have also been investing heavily to make their own production more environmentally efficient.
