This is an exciting and challenging role that will suit a well organised and experienced professional with a passion for project management, innovation and sustainability.

Closing date: Monday 18 December 2017

British Glass represents the glass manufacturing industry – offering guidance to members on environmental, technical and legal issues; promoting glass and glass recycling; communicating the glass sector’s value and interests; and fostering the innovation and collaboration to secure a sustainable future for glass.

British Glass is a partner in FISSAC, a European funded research project to increase the recycling of industrial, construction and demolition waste in Europe (www.fissacproject.eu). The consortium is composed of 26 partners from 9 countries. British Glass is leading the work on glass recycling.

Although glass can be recycled back to glass infinitely, most refurbishment and demolition glass waste – if it avoids landfill – currently ends up as aggregate in roads. While this is a form of recycling, far more energy and carbon dioxide emissions would be saved if this glass was used to make new glass and demand from glass manufacturers for good quality glass to recycle is high.

The project involves working with stakeholders at all levels of the construction and demolition supply chain to research, develop, trial and roll out innovative measures to increase the recycling of glass from building refurbishment projects across Europe. British Glass is also working closely with the rest of the consortium to provide input into various other aspects of the project.

This project officer role is an exciting opportunity for a well organised and experienced professional with a passion for project management, innovation and sustainability. The successful applicant will be working with technical experts and industry specialists to help deliver the project goals and maximise the impact for the glass industry. We need someone who can motivate and engage stakeholders, expand the network and liaise with people to identify and overcome barriers. Experience or understanding of project management and what drives change within organisations is required. You’ll also need excellent communication skills to report and disseminate project findings to a variety of stakeholders.

Applicants should be flexible and happy to work as part of the team, although a lot of independent work will be required too. As a representative of the glass industry you must be professional and presentable at all times. Knowledge of supply chains is preferred.

You will also use your knowledge and experience to contribute other areas of British Glass work.
