UK Glass Manufacture - A Mass Balance Study (2008)

UK Glass Manufacture - A Mass Balance Study (2008)

The glass industry is keen to minimise its environmental impact as far as possible, as improved environmental performance often leads to process improvements and greater efficiencies. The object of the report is to provide the reader with accurate data upon which sound and reasoned policy decisions concerning the UK’s glass industry can be made.

The total flow of glass entering into the UK economy is estimated to be slightly in excess of 4.1M tonnes and has increased 15% since the release of the original report, with the UK producing 3.5M tonnes of glass from all sectors. The UK is a net importer of glass and imported 2M tonnes, whilst exporting almost 1.3M tonnes from all sectors.

This report is an update of the original 2003 Mass Balance report, written by Andy Hartley of British Glass, and follows the same methodology.
