Siemens success in supply chain initiative award

In the hotly contested supply chain initiative category of the Glass Focus 2016 awards, the judges voted Siemens’ demonstration of major players collaborating to reposition the UK glass industry a worthy winner.

Siemens’ Energy Partnerships initiative is a systematic approach to reducing energy consumption which saves clients energy, money and other key resources. Importantly – Siemens’ enables its clients to do this without the need for capital investment by creating a programme that is cash-positive from day one.

The award was sponsored by glasstec – the international trade fair for glass production, processing and products which next takes place in Düsseldorf, 20-23 September 2016. Bindiya Verma, UK Representative of glasstec explained:

“glasstec is for the full spectrum and entire value chain of all facets of glass. We sponsored this award to show our commitment to supply chain collaboration – which we believe underpins evolution and innovation in our industry.”

Steve Barker, Head of Siemens Energy Efficiency and Environmental Care programme, was at the ceremony to receive the award from judge Brian McMillan. Steve explains:

“Glass is a focus sector for Siemens for two reasons. As an energy intensive industry the scope for savings to be made from energy efficient processes is huge – we can save clients’ money, so that’s a good business opportunity for us.

“Glass is also more prevalent in modern life than people realise. Tablet and phone screens, cars and homes, fibre glass in insulation, solar panels… we touch glass and it touches our lives in hundreds of ways every day. We want to carry being a key player in that growth and innovation.

“Glass Focus was a really useful conference for us – and winning an award was just the icing on the cake.”

Siemens energy partnerships are a collaboration between many players - not just the end customer and Siemens. Siemens provide the expert integration of these solutions and facilitate the collaboration. But to get the right results for the customer they bring in products and services from outside.

“The scope of what we could offer customers would be so much narrower if we weren’t willing to do that,” explains Steve. “This model has shown that collaboration can provide a commercially successful win-win-win if it’s balanced and positive.”
